She was born December 1, 1927 in Lyonspoint, LA to Willis and Sylvina (Cormier) Abshire. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wilbert and three brothers, Onezime “Bill”, John L. and Aldest Abshire.
Surviving are her four children, Michael Oliver and his wife Lisa, John Oliver and his wife Mona, Cheryl Fontenot and her husband Jim (Clyde) and Lottie Oliver-Gass and her husband Larry. Also surviving are ten grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Marie worked as a clerk at Crescent Drug Store and was a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors and the Catholic Daughters.
Visitation will be on Sunday, November 2, 2014 from 5pm to 9pm at Hixson Funeral Home in Welsh with a rosary service at 6:00pm and visitation will resume at 9:00am until time of service at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will be Monday at 11:00am at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
