He was born on March 9, 1935, in Montemorelos, Nuevo León, Mexico, to his loving parents, Jesus Garza and Maria Martinez. From humble beginnings, Jose lived a life deeply rooted in faith, service, and devotion to others.
Deacon Garza was a cherished and devoted member of his community, serving faithfully for many years as a deacon at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Weslaco. Through his ministry, he touched countless lives with his compassion, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to his faith. He was known for his gentle spirit, strong values, and the sincere care he showed to everyone he encountered.
One of his greatest passions was education. He firmly believed in its power to transform lives and often spoke about its importance to those he served. He encouraged others to pursue learning and personal growth, always emphasizing that education is a key to opportunity and a brighter future.
Above all, Jose was a devoted husband, father, and family man. He shared 55 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Alicia Chapa Serna—a partnership rooted in love, faith, and unwavering commitment. Their bond was a source of strength and inspiration to all who knew them.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alicia Chapa Serna; his parents, Jesus Garza and Maria Martinez; and five siblings. After years apart, he is now reunited with his beloved wife, together again in the eternal peace of the Lord—a reunion surely filled with the love they shared throughout their lives.
He is survived by his brother, Eulalio Garza Martinez; his sisters, Yolanda Garza Hernandez and Hermelinda Garza Garza; his children, Alicia A. Garza; Diamantina Garza (Gerald Richard Courson); Jose E. Garza (Yvette Roman); Juan E. Garza (Lindsey Alexander); and Jesus Garza; his grandchildren, Siobhan Enloe, Reese Enloe, Angelica M. Courson, Maxwell D. Courson, Addilee B. Garza, Alexi B. Garza, Alexander B. Garza, Jesse B. Garza, Diamond D. Garcia (née Garza), and Matthew Garza; his great-granddaughter, Valkyrie Garza; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Deacon Jose Guadalupe Garza will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his faith-filled life, his service to others, and the love he shared so generously. While his presence will be profoundly missed, there is comfort in knowing he now rests in eternal peace, reunited with the love of his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in his honor to San Martin de Porres School Tuition Assistance, supporting a cause that reflects his deep belief in the importance of education.
