Dorothy Schill lived an amazing 105 year life, being born in 1912 the year the Titanic sank. She came to the valley in the late 1950’s with her husband Ben and farmed north of Weslaco. She then became the church secretary at the Weslaco First United Methodist Church where she served in that capacity for over 30 years. She was a self-taught pianist and loved playing the piano for the Weslaco Noon Lions Club and the Weslaco Rotary Club where she was an honorary Paul Harris Fellow. She was the mother of 4, grandmother of 10, great grandmother of 13 and great, great grandmother of 15. She was preceded in death by almost everybody and survived by many. Dorothy was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star where she was also the organist. She played the piano for the Methodist Friendship Sunday School Class and was a faithful member of the church choir. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women, UMW.
She will most certainly be missed by all who knew her as she had a zest for life. The family will have a burial at Highland Memorial Park in Weslaco Friday September 7, 2018 at 10:00am. A celebration of life is planned for Saturday September 22, 2018 at the Weslaco First United Methodist Church at 11:00am.
The family thanks the staff at John Knox Village for the kind care and service provided to her over the years; from the maintenance men who came to her rescue, the cafeteria staff that kept her fed, and especially to the nursing staff in the med center who cared for her for the last eight months as well as the administration that cared for the facility.
