Born and raised in Mercedes, Texas, Jose lived a wonderful and fulfilling life centered on family, service, and education. In the 1960s, he met the love of his life, his beautiful wife, with whom he shared a lifelong partnership and raised three children. Above all else, Jose considered his greatest accomplishment to be his family, who were the source of his deepest pride and joy.
Jose dedicated more than 30 years to the field of education, faithfully serving the Edcouch-Elsa Independent School District. Over the course of his career, he wore many hats, working as a teacher, counselor, and principal. He was deeply committed to the growth and success of both students and staff, always believing in the potential of those around him and leading with care, integrity, and purpose.
In addition to his career in education, Jose was committed to serving his community. He devoted time to the Mercedes Housing Authority, where he worked to support and uplift local families. A man of faith, Jose was also an active member of a rosary group, finding strength and peace in prayer and fellowship.
Family was at the heart of Jose’s life. He cherished time spent with loved ones, and Sundays were especially sacred—reserved for family dinners filled with connection, laughter, and togetherness. These moments reflected who Jose was: devoted, loving, and always present for those he cared about most.
Jose will be remembered for his dedication to education, his service to his community, his faith, and his unwavering love for his family. His legacy lives on through his family, his students, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
