Roy was born November 22, 1934 in Santa Maria to Eloisa Reyes and Luciano Cadena. He met his devoted wife of 66 years, Leola Cano Cadena in Mercedes Texas. Together they had 5 children. Leroy Cadena (Edna), Larry Cadena (Carmen), Belinda C Lopez, Brenda C Barnun (Barry) and Ruby C Vazquez (Jaime). Roy has 15 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. He was a wonderful devoted husband, father and grandfather to all.
Roy worked at Hollon Ford Motor Co in his early years in the body shop department and then worked for Valero Energy until his retirement in October 1993. Roy was an avid supporter of the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Astros, San Antonio Spurs and a devoted fan of the Mercedes Tigers for many years. Besides his love for his family and friends he had a passion for horses. Roy was a member of several Rider's Association such as The Tip-O-Tex, RG Valley, Rio Rancho, Canelo and the Cowboys Trail Rider's Association throughout his cowboy years. Roy always had great joy when his grandkids would ride alongside him and just loved to have them there to share these moments.
Roy was known to always cater without hesitation to the trail rider's after the long ride, with a pachanga at the "Cadena Ranch". Many beautiful memories were created there at his ranch. Roy was also known to host yearly events at his ranch for the Make A Wish Foundation and for several political leaders from Hidalgo and Cameron County. Roy loved to meet up with his friends every morning for coffee at his favorite restaurant "Betos". Roy had a vivacious sense of humor and would always have everyone laughing. He will be missed dearly by his family and by all who knew him.
Our family would like to Thank his caregiver, Tree of Life, Contigo Hospice and all the family members, for the exceptional care provided to our father during his time of need.
