Clara Moya Terrones was born on May 27, 1936 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Edward Aragon Moya and Herminia Gutierrez. She passed away on August 5, 2019 in Whittier, California, a day after her sixty-third wedding anniversary and surrounded by her sons. She was with them when they took their first breath and they were with her when she took her final breath. She left knowing she was loved and that her family would carry on.
Clara, her sister Theresa and parents moved to Los Angeles when she was a child. She grew up in downtown Los Angeles and graduated from Belmont High School. She met her husband at the Riverside Rancho and married him in Las Vegas in 1956 after dating just six months. After having sons, Will and Jon, they moved to La Puente in 1960 . Clara regularly attended sporting events with her husband, supporting the Dodgers, the original Los Angeles Rams, the Lakers and USC Trojans football. She also became a big fan of Tiger Woods and loved seeing him win the last Masters. Over the years, Clara worked at the phone company, a lab, for several chiropractors, a furniture manufacturer and Bassett Unified School District, where she served as a community liason and became a political activist, fighting for Spanish speaking families.
Clara was an avid reader and loved doing the daily newspaper crossword. She was a fabulous cook and her family loved her pork fried rice, tamales, tacos and red enchiladas. Clara made her chili from scratch and only used chili from her home state of New Mexico, which is absolutely the best. She always made sure that there was money set aside for a family vacation and her family has some of their fondest memories from trips to Acapulco, Cancun, Hawaii, Mazatlán, Vancouver, Washington, Rosarito, Arizona, New Mexico, Lake Tahoe, San Francisco and Las Vegas. As a child, she loved going to listen to the Los Angeles Phil, before they performed at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. She also exposed her sons to the arts and was always there to cheer them on at football games, basketball games and especially baseball games. She adored her sons and sacrificed everything to support them. She was truly the Wind Beneath Their Wings. She also loved her grandkids and was so proud to dance with her grandson Steven (Stevie) at his wedding in 2014. She cried as they danced to You Are My Sunshine.
Clara suffered in pain for many years, but she didn't let the pain stop her from living and rarely did she ever complain. Like her son Will, she was a warrior. Though bed ridden the last year of her life, she continued to be positive and always thankful for every day God gave her. While laying in bed, she enjoyed watching concerts on PBS, especially Neil Diamond and the Bee Gee's. She also loved watching Tom Selleck on Blue Bloods.
To her family, she was a wife, mom, mama, grams and yum yum. She has left a legacy of caring and love. Her family was always the most important thing in her life. She has left this earth, but she will not be forgotten by those that knew her and loved her. May she rest in eternal peace with her son Will.
Clara leaves behind her husband, William "Bill" Terrones, her sons, Jon of Ventura,California, Steve of Henderson, Nevada and Garett of La Puente, California and her daughters-in-law, Tina and Monica. She is survived by her grandchildren, Crystal, Corey, Justin, Steven II, Nathan, Jackie, Jason and Garrett, as well as her great-grandchildren, Kaleo, Nikko, Danielle and baby Stella. Clara is also survived by her aunt, Nena Castro, uncle, Oscar Gutierrez and sisters, Theresa Conrad of Battle Ground, Washington and Caroline Gomez of Commerce, California.
Clara is preceded in death by her parents, Edward (1978), Herminia (2012) and her beloved son Will (2010).
