My dearest Velinda

Not a day goes by that you are not missed! I think of you everyday and wish you were still here with us. It may only be a year since your departure but it feels like forever.

I have to remind myself how fortunate I am for having gotten the opportnity to get to know you as well as I did and, especially, for the amount of time we got to spend together.  You brought so much light into my life and your unconditional love for me was immeasurable.  Your huge smile would brighten the dullest of rooms, the sound of your laughter would fill my heart .  Your fire for life would warm the souls of anyone you came in contact with.  I am lucky enough to get to hear all the stories people have of their memories and experiences with you. There is always one common denominator to their stories . You made every one feel loved.  Your acceptance of people and non judgemental nature alowed people to be who they were and you celebrated that.  You brought out the best in people and encouraged them to be the best version of themselves. People loved you and wanted to be around you because you made them good about themselves.  It’s a beautiful quality to have!

I will always love you and cherish the time we had together and will always do whatever I can to honor your legacy.  Knowing you so well, I know your biggest concern would be your son, Van, the love of your life.   I want you to be at peace knowing he is exactly where you told me you wanted him to be, in the loving care of your beautiful family.  Your entire family- Erlinda,  Anna and Javee , Bernabe,  Annastasia, Arden,  Alejandra and Auntie Thelma are all surrounding him with the love and support he needs to become the brilliant young man you knew he would be.  Everyone is rallied together to give him love as well as to keep your memory alive. You can rest in peace knowing that your legacy will live on and that you will never be forgotten...


I'm sorry, I didn't know her,, I was looking through the obituaries for someone else and saw her picture, she's beautiful, my deepest sympathy to those her love her.  I read a memory written by the man she lived with and the remainder of this message goes to him. On January 22, 2020 the man I lived with for 8 years died in front of our home, I waited 2 hours for the Coroner to arrive to take him away, like you I felt numb, in shock and deflated, he took more than half of me with him. You described exactly what I went through and how I feel. I'm sorry for your loss, I know exactly how you feel. The silence of her voice and the absence of her existance brings great suffering to everyone who loved her. 

Velinda was my life.  I loved her more than anything.  Never in my life have i met such a beautiful  and loving person who had a light inside her that shined so bright.  She had an infectious personality that drew people in.  She welcomed you no matter who you were and made you feel safe and loved.  She accepted you for who you were and celebrated your individuality.  

I have had the honour to live with her for the past 8 years and have spent more time with her than anyone else in my life and i cant think of any time that i wasnt happy or excited to be around her.  She made life fun and exciting and she loved so hard.  

I was there at the time of her death.  She called out for me when her breathing stopped.  It was devastating.  To lose her is to lose half of myself.  But i know she wants me to go on and celebrate her legacy.  As i saw her body being taken away, i was numb.  I didn't want her to go.  But when i looked at her for the very last time at the house, I saw her in peace.  She looked beautiful.  She looked the way ive always imagined the angels in heaven to look.  And if I know Velinda, right now she is in Heaven RULING the skies.  

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if when my time comes, i get to the pearly gates to find her standing at the door in charge of the guest list!

I love you Velinda.  You will be greatly missed, but never forgotten!
