Bridget Rocha, 97, passed away on Monday, November 2, 2015. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, November 6, 2015 with a 7 p.m. rosary service at McLaren’s Chapel. A funeral mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday November 7, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines, Iowa.
Bridget was born May 25, 1918 to Hermana and Julio Lopez in Des Moines, IA. She was raised in Des Moines and attended Lincoln High School. In May 1942, Bridget married Gilbert Rocha. The two resided in Valley Junction where they spent the remainder of their lives.
Bridget was a loving homemaker and an excellent cook. You could often find her making fresh tortillas and playing with her children and grandchildren. As her daughters entered their teenage years, she joined the workforce, applying her cooking skills making pizza at The Tavern and as cook for the West Des Moines school system.
Her hobbies included ceramics, crocheting, embroidery and gardening. In her later years she loved sitting on the porch and enjoying the sun.
She is survived by two daughters, Rita Moreno and Anita Rocha-Saffell, both of West Des Moines; five grandchildren, Paul Moreno, Ann Marie Moreno, Andrea Rocha, Peter Rocha, and Carlos Rocha; seven great-grandchildren, Maya Moreno, Margeaux Rocha, Tomas Rocha, Rosalio Rocha, Quinn Rocha, Alicia Rocha and Augustine Rocha; and two great-great-granddaughters, Dondria and Evelyn Rose. Bridget was preceded in death by her husband Gilbert; her parents; her sisters, Martha Rios, Regina Mendenhall and Mary Lopez; stepson, Ramon Rocha; and a great-granddaughter, Nora Wynd.
