Carl Richard Selzer

Carl Richard Selzer, 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines surrounded by his family. A Memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 1001 South James Street, Grimes, IA 50111.

Carl was born February 10, 1926 in Port Huron, MI to John and Katherine (Wagner) Selzer. He had lived in the Des Moines area since 1961. Carl was a Maintenance Supervisor for the Real Estate Department at Drake University and a decorated U.S. Army Veteran during WWII. He was a member of the DAV, VFW, St. Peter Lutheran Church in Grimes and a past member of Christ Lutheran Church in Des Moines. Carl loved traveling, taking road trips and attending his grandkids sporting events and activities.

Carl is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dolores Selzer of Mitchellville; four children, Jennifer (Vinton) Hays of Des Moines, Debbie (Bob) Fogle of Des Moines, Cindy (Pat) Miller of Urbandale and Rich (Sharon) Selzer of Atlanta, GA; ten grandchildren, Heather Hays, Tad Hays, Layla Nichols, Zach Ward, Andrea Langford, Libby Endorf, Turner Miller, Adam Selzer, Eli Selzer and Cassidy Selzer; eleven great-grandchildren and sister, Louise (Bill) Ullenbruch of Grand Rapids, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and four sisters.
