Death ends a life,
not a relationship.
- MITCH ALBOM, TUESDAYS WITH MORRIE
Christopher Nyberg. Nobody says, “I kind of remember that guy.”
If you met Chris, you remembered him. The guy liked to talk…
a lot. But that’s why we loved him — he was real, funny, honest,
insatiably curious and extraordinary in his ability to make
anyone feel comfortable. He loved to laugh. He loved his friends.
He loved his family.
Jodi Nyberg, Chris’s wife of nearly 14 years, says above all, Chris
was a devoted husband and father, a giver of himself to a fault
and...a talker. “Chris could talk to a telephone pole and become its
best friend,” she said. Anyone who knew him knew Jodi was truly
the love of his life and he considered their kids, Jack and Lauren,
to be the center of their universe together.
Ryan Nyberg, Chris’s younger brother and best friend, says what
Chris talked about most defined his priorities. “His favorite things
to talk about were Jodi and the kids.” He’d talk about everything.
But before all else, he talked about his family — glowing, proud.
Any day, even with perfect strangers, Chris would discuss his
beloved Pittsburgh Steelers, music, politics, repairing anything,
religion, science and the funniest moments of his day — told only in
the way he could tell it.
His favorite thing to do: make people laugh. Ryan had talked to
Chris almost daily for the last 15 years. “Every day, he’d make me
laugh so hard, I’d be in tears. He told extremely long-winded stories,
but I never got tired of them.”
Chris can’t be remembered without mentioning his passion for music.
Dave Matthews Band, the Grateful Dead and Cornmeal. And from
saxophone to guitar to drums, he loved to play as well.
Through laughter, serious talks, long-winded stories, and just being
there, Chris Nyberg developed deep, meaningful relationships with
those he respected. “He gravitated toward good, good people,” Ryan
said. Or maybe good, good people gravitated toward him.
Chris believed, “Kids just want your time, that’s it. They don’t want
things, they just want to share experiences with you.” And that’s
what the people around him wanted — to spend time with Chris.
Now, Chris gets to listen. Great memories and true friends
together…for him. Chris (Big Daddy Cornbread, Chritty, Kid
Weenie, Chili Bowl, Critter), thank you for the laughter and love
you gave us. We can’t wait to spend more time with you.
