Delores Ann Valdez, 86, of West Des Moines, died on March 31, 2021, at the Bright Kavanagh/EveryStep hospice house in Des Moines. A private family graveside will be held at a later date. Delores was born July 25, 1934 in Des Moines to Staurt G. and Edith (Hyland) Jones. She graduated from Lincoln High School and not long after, she competed in roller skating contests winning several trophies. From there, she went on to teach skating at Skate-o-rama in West Des Moines. Later she worked for C.D.S (Communication Date Services) for 43 years before retiring. She married her late husband, John Valdez, in 1963, and together they shared many happy years until his passing in 2018. Delores enjoyed gardening, planting flowers, and just being outdoors. She had a special place in her heart for animals, and she loved to feed the squirrels, birds, and cats. Delores could be seen attending the city-wide garage sales every weekend, and in her quiet time, she enjoyed reading books and doing jigsaw puzzles. Her hidden passion was candy, more specifically Sweet Tarts, even though she knew she shouldn’t. She is survived by her children, Diane (Denny) Brooker, Denise (Tom) Durflinger, and Mike bus; four grandchildren, Dan (Amy) Rocha, Scott (Diane) Rocha, John Hawxby, Amanda (Matt) Dollison; Six great grandchildren; two stepsons, Vincent (Gayle) Valdez, Tom (Kelly) Leyden; five step grandchildren, Abby (Joe) Brammer, Nick Valdez, Jeremy (Nicci) Williams, Jason (Stephanie) Leydens, Anthony (Michelle) Leydens; and five step great grandchildren; three half brothers, Bob Jones, Tuck Jones, and Bruce Jones; two half sisters, Kathy Jones, and Judy Jones. I worked with Dolores at CDS for many years. I could always hear her big laugh and knew she was coming down the hall. She worked hard, but always made time to be kind, funny and someone you wanted to work with.

So sorry for your loss! Anne

My heart is heavy upon reading of Delores' passing. She was one-of-a-kind, with her spunk and humor. I don't recall ever seeing her without a smile on her face and a good story to tell. I only regret that the entire time I knew her I never knew of her passion, and talent, for roller skating - I love to roller skate & would surely have asked her to go with me and teach me a thing or two!! Heaven has surely gained a special angel and I am hoping you hit a "big win" on your favorite slot machine in the sky, Dear Delores. My condolences to the family. She will always hold a special place in my heart, for sure.

I'm saddened to hear about Delores. She was such a great lady! I knew her for years at CDS. She was an honest, straight shooter. She would always let you know exactly how she felt, good or bad, and would also listen to others.

My condolences to her family. Mike, Diane and Denise, I hope you fare well through this. I know from experience that it's not easy, but the good memories make it easier over time.
