

Dixie L. Waddell, 88, passed away Monday, September 8th, 2025. Dixie is survived by her two children, Raymond (Mary Anne) Waddell and Vicky Ozimek; her brother, Frank Morris; four grandchildren, Lindsey Holm, Evan Waddell, Ashlee Waddell, and Raychel Waddell; four great-grandchildren, Arielle Cloyd, Rylee Proffitt, Carter Ozimek, and Taylor Holm; as well as two great-great-grandchildren, Isabella and Dominic.
Dixie is preceded in death by her husband, Ike Waddell; parents, Frank and Catherine Morris, and two sisters, Della Overton and Patricia.
Dixie was born in Madison County, Iowa, on January 6, 1937. She married Ike Waddell in 1956 and together they made their permanent home in Des Moines, Iowa. She dedicated 20 years to Employers Mutual and another 25 years to Equitable Life Insurance before her retirement. Dixie was also a devoted member of Saint Augustin’s Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and put in many volunteer hours including teaching catechism.
Dixie had many hobbies, baking, crocheting, ceramics, painting, and gardening. Dixie had an abundance of grandchildren to spend her time with, she was loving and warm and made a great impact on many people. She was selfless and she was always willing to help anyone around her, and welcome anyone into her home at any time. Dixie spent most of her retirement with all of her grandchildren, her home was always loud in the most beautiful way with the sounds of laughter, and children running. Dixie was the feeling of comfort, for all of her family members and she will be missed for eternity.
A visitation for Dixie will be held Tuesday, September 16, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Saint Augustin's Catholic Church, 545 42nd St, Des Moines, IA 50312. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, September 16, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 545 42nd St, Des Moines, IA 50312. A graveside service will occur Tuesday, September 16, 2025 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at McLaren's Resthaven Chapel & Mortuary, 801 19th Street, West Des Moines, IA 50265.
