Donald D. Bast

Don Bast, 92, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at Beaverdale Estates. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, April 16, 2016 at McLaren’s Funeral Chapel, 801 19th St., West Des Moines, with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.

Don was born March 15, 1924, in College Springs, Iowa, to Ora and David Bast. He married Bette Scott in December, 1944, and moved to Urbandale in 1952. Don worked at Borden’s and Anderson-Erickson dairies in home delivery route sales until he retired in 1982. He continued working in corporate floral and plant maintenance for another 30 years. In addition to family, his many interests included pets, gardens, Lion’s Club and playing bridge with friends. He was a member of Meredith Drive Reformed Church.

Don is survived by his two sons, Denny (Diane) of Des Moines and Kelly (Kathy) of Johnston; one daughter, Melodie (Brad) Wahlert of Fort Worth, TX; a sister, Eunice Bast Henn of Shenandoah, IA; four grandchildren, Adam Bast of West Des Moines, Patty Law of West Des Moines, Allison Vaughn of Houston, TX, and Ashlee Loewen of Jacksonville Beach, FL; six great-grandchildren, Sophie Bast of West Des Moines, Calvin Law of West Des Moines, Lillian and Alice Vaughn of Houston, TX, and Avenlee and Ellis Loewen of Jacksonville Beach, FL. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bette, his brother, Art Bast, and his sister, Blanche Edwards.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at McLaren’s Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to Meredith Drive Reformed Church.
