

Doris Bowman, 93, passed away June 6, 2025. A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 10, 2025, at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel, 801 19th Street, West Des Moines, IA, 50265.
Doris was born April 19, 1932, in Montezuma, IA and spent her adult life mostly in Maquoketa, where she raised her sons, David and Dean. She worked with the Maquoketa newspaper in the advertising department as the chief photographer and an editor. She married Cecil Bowman and moved to Clarence, IA, where she worked on the staff of the Tipton Conservative and as a wedding photographer.
Upon retiring, she and Cecil spent their winters in Texas visiting their son in Dallas. After that they traveled to the LBJ ranch, where they busied themselves giving tours of the ranch and home, and spent many mornings having breakfast with LBJ and Lady Bird. After Cecil’s death, Doris moved to Des Moines to be closer to her son Dave.
She is survived by her son, David E. Scott, OD (Vicki); granddaughter, Alexis; and great-grandson, John. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings; husband, Cecil Bowman; and son Dean A. Scott, MD.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tunnels to Towers in Doris’ honor.
Doris will be laid to rest in Resthaven Cemetery, 801-19th Street, West Des Moines, Iowa 50265.
