Doris Lila Stamatelos

Doris Lila Stamatelos, 95, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at The Village at Legacy Pointe in Waukee. Visitation will be from 12 to 1 p.m. Monday, May 16, 2016 at McLaren’s Chapel with a funeral service at 1 p.m. Burial will take place at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.

Doris was born January 31, 1921 in Emmons, MN to Mike and Lolla (Helland) Schmidthuber. Doris graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1938 and received her Associate Degree from AIB in 1940. During her career she was a Paper and Printing Planner for Meredith Printing in Des Moines for twenty-two and a half years and retired in 1986. Doris was an active bridge player and enjoyed playing up until the last year of her life. She was known as a sweet and generous person, and looked forward to her lunches with friends. Doris enjoyed spending time with her special friend and companion of 25 years, Don Jessen, and they spent many winters in Arizona together with friends.

Doris is survived by her brother, Leo Schmidthuber of Lake Mills; daughter, Nancy (Tom) Parson of Nehalem, OR; son, Tommy Stamatelos of Riverside, CA; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and her special companion, Don Jessen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom D. Stamatelos; brothers, Russell and Dale; and sisters, Irene and Viola.
