

Les is survived by his two children, son Mike (Brenda) Greaves and daughter Mary Greaves; his grandchildren Jennifer (Adam) Trask, David (Janet) Baird, Scott (Christine) Greaves, and Lisa Larson; and great-grandchildren Tanner (Courtney), Zach (Molly) and Kelly Trask, Karenna and Kerrigan Larson, JT and Tommy Baird and Ethan and Emily Klement. Les was preceded in death by his wife of over 73 years, Patricia Ann (Pat) Greaves; his parents, Edric C. and Tabitha L. Greaves; brothers William and Donald Greaves, and sisters Eleanor Nickens, Judith Wilson and Ann Montgomery; grandchild Brian Greaves, great-grandchildren Edric and Noah Greaves and grandson-in-law Jason Larson.
He was born In Des Moines, IA on September 10, 1929 and attended North High School and Drake University. He worked at Iowa-Des Moines National Bank (aka Norwest Bank) for almost 40 years.
When his children were growing up he was actively involved in all of their activities whether it was his son’s baseball or his daughter's dancing. Later he was a proud grandfather and great- grandfather who enjoyed following all of their activities. Les had a life-long passion for sports and especially enjoyed following the Hawkeyes and Yankees. He also spent many hours pursuing an interest in Civil War history.
Les loved life and made friends easily. He and Pat had many lifelong friendships and enjoyed hosting parties and spending time with both family and friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 30, at 11 a.m. at McLarens Funeral Chapel with visitation starting at 10 a.m. Lunch will be served immediately following.
Les’ family wants to thank all of the wonderful caregivers who have loved and taken care of both dad and mom at Mill Pond in Ankeny and would ask that memorials be made either to Mill Pond (1210 SE Mill Pond Ct, Ankeny, IA 50021) or the Polar Bear Scholarship Fund, c/o North High School Alumni Association, 501 Holcomb Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50313.
