Erwin John Aswegan, 92, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2022.
Erwin was born on March 24, 1930, in Hardin County, Iowa, to Henry and Elise (Polzin). He was united in marriage to Malinda Brandt on September 26, 1953. Together they raised their family in Ankeny, where Erwin worked and retired from John Deere in 1993 after 30 years of service. His hobbies included woodworking, and he was a Central Iowa Model A Club member. He was a charter member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
His is survived by his wife, Malinda; children Michael (Beth) of Las Cruces, NM, Mary (Craig) Catron of Ankeny, James (Robbie) of Alleman, and Jackie (Tom) Horton of Woodbine, GA; grandchildren, Kelly, Elise, Rebekah, Mandy, Sarah, and Holly; 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother Earl, sister Ruth, and brother Gerhart.
Funeral services will be 11 am on Friday, July 22, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ankeny. Visitation will begin at 10 am until service on Friday. Inurnment will be at a later date at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
