Francis "Sonny" Slack, 88, went to be with the Lord on August 26, 2016 surrounded by his family at home in Des Moines. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, August 29, 2016 at McLaren’s Chapel. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at McLaren’s Chapel. Burial will take place at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
Francis was born August 17, 1928 to Francis and Margaret (Lang) Slack in Hocking, Iowa. He worked at Firestone for 33 1\2 years and provided for his family. He was a member of the R.L.D.S. Church and loved to tell people about Jesus. His loving kindness and great big smile towards everyone will always be remembered by everyone who knew him. He will be greatly missed by all.
Francis is survived by his wife, Marilyn; sons, Tim Slack (Bonnie) of Exira, Ray Slack (Cathy) of Des Moines, and Rodney Slack (Lori) of Urbandale; daughters, Connie Martin (Harvey) of Quapaw, Oklahoma and Rose Slack (Paul Cross) of Des Moines; 15 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Bobby, five brothers and one sister.
