George Herman Borg, Jr., 87, went home to heaven for Christmas on December 22, 2019. George “Bud” was born on August 21, 1932, in Des Moines, IA to George & Margaret (Dahl) Borg. He graduated from East High School and went on to two years at Grand View College, where he played baseball and golf. He completed his Bachelor in Business Administration at Drake University in 1955. Most of his working years were with the State of Iowa where he was a dedicated, detail-oriented Auditor.
In 1960, he married Lois C. Escher, and they were blessed with over 59 years together. George was a kind, loving husband and proud father of their four children.
George loved spending time with family, celebrating birthdays and Christmas, taking vacations, and being part of his Men’s Bible Studies. He also loved watching baseball, basketball, golf, and doing puzzles.
He supported his children growing up with their many sports and activities and their Des Moines Register paper routes. Many hours were spent playing catch in the back yard and shooting basketball in the driveway. He also loved to play golf with his sons.
He loved his grandchildren and tried to attend music concerts, grandparent days, and many sporting events. Some favorite times for the little ones was to bounce on grandpa’s legs, playing board games, putting curlers in his hair and make him “special” food creations.
George loved holidays, picking out the best cards, and writing personal notes inside. He also enjoyed a good meal and every dessert. He knew all the best buffets in the state since he traveled with his profession.
A favorite time was taking family vacations and eventually making it to every state and several countries. He especially loved the mountains. Many summers were also spent at Clear Lake Bible Camp. He loved taking many photos of these special memories, including photos at all the state lines.
He was an active church leader, serving as Treasurer, on the Mission Board, Sunday School teacher, singing in the choir, and helping with building maintenance. He loved serving the Lord.
George is survived by his devoted wife, Lois; children Steven, David (Lisa Marie) Borg, Lisa Diane (Michael) Wingfield and Paul (Brandy); grandchildren Jeffrey (Katya) Wingfield, Sara Wingfield, Alison, Abigail, Owen, Olivia, and Calen Borg; great-grandchildren Isaac and Natalie Cook; brother Richard “Dick” (Joyce) Borg and nephew Reverend Jeffrey Borg and many other relatives.
Burial will be at Masonic Cemetery in Des Moines.
