Gerald “Jerry” Robert Foote, 83, passed away Friday, October 27, 2023. A visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, November 6, 2023 at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines. Burial will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Highland Memory Gardens in Des Moines.
Jerry was born August 27, 1940 in Cedar Rapids to Gerald L and June Nora (Sesker) Foote. “Twink”, as he was known to family and close friends, was a paperboy for three years at the Des Moines Register, a star Boy Scout BSA, and a 60 year resident on 39th Street in Des Moines. He graduated from Roosevelt HS in 1958 and enjoyed playing trombone in the marching band. Jerry graduated from ISU in 1963 with a degree in Architectural Engineering and was a proud member of the Delta Chi fraternity. He went on to study structural engineering at the University of Iowa and was a lifelong registered industrial and structural engineer, ASCE. Jerry was employed by several U.S. engineering firms and was the resident civil engineer at the Muara Krang Steam Power Plant in Jakarta, Indonesia. Jerry was also a member of the Iowa National Guard for 6 years, a voracious reader, world traveler, and poker player.
Jerry is survived by his sisters, Shirley (Lonnie) Hinders of New Mexico and Colleen (David) Kaiser of New York. He was preceded in death by his parents.
