

Glen D. Madsen “Doc”, 85, passed away Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Mercy West Lakes Hospital. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, September 11th at St. Mark Lutheran Church with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
Glen was born August 13, 1929 in Exira, Iowa to George and Regina (Nissen) Madsen. He was raised on Des Moines’ south side where he graduated from Lincoln High School in 1948.
Glen was a graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic and served in the U.S. Army in Korea. Dr. Madsen was one of the first chiropractors in West Des Moines, practicing for nearly 50 years. Throughout his professional career, he served in leadership roles and earned numerous awards with the Iowa Chiropractic Society. He also held offices in the West Des Moines Jaycees, Church Opportunity Group and was a long time member of St. Mark Lutheran Church.
Glen was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying all aspects of hunting and fishing along with his dogs, especially his yellow Labrador, Buck. He was a faithful and true friend to many in the community, providing years of care and kindness to all. Most importantly, he was dedicated to his family near and far with love and support for all of their endeavors.
He is survived by three sons and their families, Dr. Michael (Allison) Madsen of Ewa Beach, HI, Jeff Madsen of Seldovia, AK and Curt (Sheila) Madsen of West Des Moines; six grandchildren, Chris (Kate) Madsen, Jennifer Thomas, Kristen (Greg) Kluthe, Michael Madsen, Jr., Kelly and Janelle Madsen; and two great-grandchildren, Noah and Abigail Madsen. Glen was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis and grandson, Todd Madsen.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Mark Lutheran Church.
