James Arthur Fitzgerald, 82, passed away on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at Fountain West Health Care Center in West Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, September 20, 2014 at McLaren’s Chapel with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
James was born November 23, 1931 in Varina, IA to Daniel and Blanche (Morrison) Fitzgerald. He was a U.S. Navy and Marine veteran during the Korean War. James raised, trained and showed quarter horses.
James is survived by his wife, Alsie Fitzgerald of Urbandale; daughter, Jayme Fitzgerald of Adel; step-son, Mark (Kristen) Sydness of Tomball, TX; step-daughter, Jodi (John) Reinhart of Ames; two grandchildren, Blake Fudge and Valerie Sydness; brother, Donald Fitzgerald of Fonda and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters and three brothers.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at McLaren’s Chapel. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
