John ”Jack” Michael Elias, 42, passed away in his home on Tuesday, February 9, 2010. A Memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday at McLaren’s Chapel with private interment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
John was born October 16, 1967 to Paul C. and Helen T. (Boland) Elias in Syracuse, NY. He later enjoyed hot Iowa days, often swimming and biking, with occasional summers farming the hills of NE Iowa with his uncles. Winter only instigated 'trouble' for John, be it intentional tailspins in the family car or later in his Jeep. As a young adult, John embraced California life before returning to his ancestral Iowa.
John is a 1985 graduate of Valley High School and attended DMACC in business administration. He served four years in the U.S. Navy-San Diego Steadfast AFDM-14 to the rank of Seaman. Coastal life suited John well. Analytical by nature, John quickly parlayed his drafting background into the title insurance/land abstracting trade, initially in California. His professional standards and technical prowess earned him the respect of attorneys and fellow industry members for a job he loved - Senior Title Specialist/Republic Abstract Co.
Ultimately John brought his young family back to Iowa to enjoy the Midwest quality of life, where he rejuvenated his passion for all that is green - landscaping a beautiful home, lending a hand to anyone/anytime and pursuing a thoughtful life despite unnecessary challenges. It is the love that John offered all that makes him a truly blessed man. Unrelenting love and care for his three children segued into his ardent advocacy for the father's rights movement. His smile, goofy sense of humor and beautiful soul will be dearly missed - family and friends unite to celebrate his life with us.
John is survived by his children; Kelsey Nicole, Cameron Michael and Kyleigh Brie; mother, Helen; two sisters, Karen and Barbara (Michael) Wagoner; his aunts, Sharon (Pat) Murphy; Catherine(Bernard) Loftsgard and Ruth Courtney. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul C. Elias; grandparents, C. Robert and Lillian Elias, Phil and Ruey Boland; and his five uncles, Edward, John, Kenneth, Jerry, and Jim Boland.
Visitation with the family will be from 9:30 until service time on Saturday, February 13th at McLarens Resthaven Chapel (801 - 19th Street in West Des Moines). Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Central Iowa, Animal Rescue League of Iowa, or 1000 Friends of Iowa.
