John E. Spencer passed away on September 27, 2013 at Fountain West Care Center. John was born on May 6, 1925, in Valley Junction, Iowa, and lived his life in the Des Moines area. He married Ruth Wiles in 1944. John was a World War II Air Force Veteran. He retired from KCCI-TV as an engineer in 1987 where he was employed 32 years.
John enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery and anything he could do outdoors. He also enjoyed bowling, cards and photography. His family meant the world to him.
John is survived by his wife, Ruth; son, John E. II (Carol); daughter Laura Lindaman; ten grandchildren; six step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Purl D. and Marie Spencer; his sister, Iris and granddaughter, Jodee Ruth Lindaman.
Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at McLaren’s Funeral Chapel, 801 19th Street, West Des Moines, Iowa followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. A private burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines. Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Central Iowa.
