1945 – 2025
Heaven gained a radiant light on Monday, April 14, 2025, when Judith Ann (Horner) Yule—Judy—passed away unexpectedly in Bradenton, Florida. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Judy brought joy, laughter, and love into the lives of all who knew her.
Born May 4, 1945, to Vernon L. (Bud) and Jean M. (Van Ginkle) Horner, Judy grew up as a proud south-sider. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1963 and briefly attended Drake University before heading to Dallas to enroll in flight attendant school with Braniff Airlines. Love soon called her back home to Des Moines—Tom Yule had asked her to come home so they could begin their life together. They married on December 18, 1965, and built a beautiful life and family together, raising three children: Kimberly, Kelli, and Kristofer in Clive, IA.
Judy’s greatest joy was her family. She was a pillar of love, warmth, and strength—proudly fulfilling her roles as wife, mom, and a fun-loving “G-Ma” to her grandchildren. Tiny but mighty, Judy was a force of nature. She had a remarkable way of lighting up every room she entered. Whether she was hosting family gatherings, preparing her famous meatballs or Christmas toffee, or enjoying a glass of white wine—Judy was the heart and soul of the Yule family.
Her happy place was the beach, especially Coquina Beach near her and Tom's vacation home in Bradenton, Florida. Winters in Bradenton brought her joy and many new friendships among the Rosedale Community.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel (801 19th St, West Des Moines, Iowa 50265). A Memorial Service will follow at 3:00 PM. Her ashes will be interred at Resthaven Cemetery Chapel Mausoleum.
Judy is survived by her husband of 59 years, Tom Yule; her children, Kimberly (John) King, Kelli Harryman, and Kristofer (Amelia) Yule; and her grandchildren, Caroline and Charlotte King, Jessica Harryman, and Ray, Kolby, Hannah, Quinnlyn, and Carson Yule. She is also survived by her siblings, Ken (Carla) Horner, Gary (Debbie) Gillum, Charlie Gillum, and Julie (Jeff) McLaughlin; her faithful dog, Murphy; her beloved Aunt Bobbi; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, Colby Dr. neighbors and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother Frances Horner, sister Janet Schwartz, and her son-in-law Mike Harryman.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Ministries.
May the light of her life continue to shine in the hearts of those she touched.
