Kathryn “Kay” Gramlich, 86, passed away on Monday, March 20, 2017 at Trinity Center in Des Moines. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2017 at McLaren’s Chapel with a memorial service at 7 p.m. Inurnment will take place at Resthaven Mausoleum in West Des Moines.
Kay was born December 3, 1930 in Fremont, NE to Oscar and Irene (Marris) Carlson. She was a homemaker who taught English and math as a young woman. Kay was a member of the West Des Moines United Methodist Church, PEO Chapter LA, Order of Eastern Star and Friendship Force. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, traveling, making stained glass pieces and monarch butterflies.
Kay is survived by her children, Ann Gramlich Akers (John) of Matthews, NC, Dick Gramlich (Janice) of West Des Moines and Nancy Gramlich of Osceola; two grandchildren, Keri Pender (AJ) of West Des Moines and Becky Vandermark (Chad) of Waukee; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Gramlich and brother, Keith Carlson.
