LaVerne Aaron Johnson, 78, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home on June 12th, 2023. LaVerne was born on September 26th, 1944, in Galesburg, IL. A visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 17th at Resthaven Mausoleum, 801 19th Street, West Des Moines.
LaVerne’s life passion was his work as a salon owner. For many years, he owned Spectra Ltd. Where he made everyone in his chair feel like a friend. He enjoyed vibrantly decorating the salon for every holiday and season. It was in his work that many of his life-long friendships were formed. LaVerne had a passion for animals and spoiled his many cats over the years. He enjoyed traveling and entertaining with his partner, Michael, and could always be found with a fine glass of scotch.
LaVerne is preceded in death by his life partner, Michael L. Wonders, his parents, Aaron and Nellie Johnson, brother, Dennis Johnson, and many other friends and loved ones. He is survived by his daughter, Kelle (John) Collins; grandchildren Katie (Clint) Manny, Bryan Collins, Molly (Katie) Collins, and many great-grandchildren and life-long friends.
