Marie Anne Nelson, 75, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on March 12, 2015, at her home. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 19, 2015 at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Entombment will be at the Resthaven Mausoleum following the service.

Marie was born March 9, 1940, in Madison, Nebraska, to Frederick and Helen Maurer. She graduated in 1956 from Madison High School and in 1960 from Wayne State College in Nebraska. Marie spent most of her teaching career in Dubuque, Iowa, teaching high school business classes. Marie was strong in her faith and an avid reader. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and had a great sense of humor. Marie enjoyed extensive travel with Don to all 50 states and multiple cruises. She loved spending time with friends and family and especially cherished time with her grandchildren whom she was so proud of.

Marie is survived by her husband of 54 years, Don; children, Kelli (Bryan) Ladd and Mr. and Mrs. Loren Nelson; grandchildren, Elena, Jaden, Evan and Kora; and siblings, Anita (Harlow) Dover and Alice (John) Mohr. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a baby sister, Mary Anne Maurer.

Memorial contributions can be directed to the John Stoddard Cancer Center in Marie’s name.
