Marleen was born on December 22, 1952, in Grundy Center, Iowa. She graduated from Dike Community High School in 1971. She was a flautist in the then award-winning Dike High School Band. She graduated from AIB in 1972. Marleen was a devoted homemaker, accomplished seamstress and quilter. Many of her handmade creations were gifted to others. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, sailing at Saylorville Lake, cheering the Vikings, and of course, traveling.
She is survived by her husband, Mark Slatterly, son, Mike Slatterly (Traci), sisters Pam Syhlman (Steve), Peggee Frost (Rob), brother Dennis Viet (Shelley) brother-in-law Tom Slatterly (Susan), sister-in-law Anne Slatterly, father-in-law Calvin Slatterly and 5 nephews and 5 nieces.
Her father Herman Viet, mother Mary Viet, mother-in-law Margaret Slatterly and son Daniel preceded her in death.
A visitation will be held Sunday, December 15, 2019, at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel (801 19th Street, West Des Moines) from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate in her memory to the charity that is nearest to your heart.
