

Maxine Jones of Jacksonville, FL, formerly of Des Moines, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2016. Maxine was born on July 28, 1920 and was raised on a farm in Ankeny. She married Vernon Jones in 1946, and they resided in Des Moines for the majority of their lives. After high school, Maxine went on to cosmetology school, and remained in the profession until her retirement in 1985. Over the years, Maxine worked in numerous local beauty shops, including the Commodore Hotel, Sal’s, Dorian’s, and Patrick’s. In 2015, Maxine moved to Jacksonville to be near her family.
Maxine joined Windsor United Methodist Church in 1950. She was active in church activities and held numerous volunteer positions. She also joined and was active in American Business Women’s Association (ABWA). Maxine was always willing to lend a hand when asked.
She is survived by her son, Duane (Nardi) of Jacksonville, FL; grandsons, Brandon (Kathryn) of San Francisco, CA, and a great-grandchild due in May, and Bryce (Nina) of Peoria, AZ, and great-granddaughters, Ava and Alana; brother, Clarence (Bud) Altenburger of Corona, CA; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband and three sisters.
There will be a visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, December 12, 2016 at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel in West Des Moines, with a private burial to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to her church or the charity of choice.
