Merton McCoy, 78, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2010 in Lecanto, Florida.
A Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at McLaren’s Chapel with private burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
Merton was born August 3, 1931, the son of Dr. Harold J. and Darcus (Baker) McCoy. He graduated from Roosevelt High School, Wentworth Military Academy and attended the University of Iowa and Drake University. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict.
Merton worked for the Iowa Daily Press and then Roto Rooter Corp. for 30 years as Vice-President of Marketing. He was a member of Urbandale Golf & Country Club, Sugarmill Woods Country Club and Southern Woods Golf Club.
Merton is survived by his wife of nearly 35 years, Mary Ellen (Nutting) McCoy; four children, Ted McCoy of Brandon, MS, Larry (Keri) McCoy of Baraboo, WI, Michael (Jody) McCoy of Des Moines, IA and Margaret (Steve) Brown of Brandon, MS; four step-children, Lynne (Jim) Blass of Woodbury, MN, Patricia (Dennis) Shaffer of Alburnett, IA, Randall (Sandra) Hunter of Tracy, IA and Karen (Jeff) Wilkinson of Des Moines, IA; seven grandchildren; ten step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert McCoy and step-grandson, Andrew Hunter.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 pm Saturday prior to the service at McLaren’s. Memorial contributions may be given to Hospice of Citrus County (P.O. Box 641270, Beverly Hills, FL 34464)
