Orvis Arthur Broin passed in peace surrounded by his family at the age of 92 on April 28th. Preceded in death by his wife Ruth and daughter Janet. Survived by son Bradley (Jill), grandchildren Nicole, Bella and Gunnar. He was very proud of his great grandchildren, Calvin, Emmrik and Azellia.
Remembered by his family and friends as a loving caring patriarch, cherished friend and humble jokester. Known as Orv by everyone, was born on September 6th 1925 in Kenyon, MN at the family home to Oscar and Ella Broin. Their family eventually ending up in Hector, MN where he attended public school with his brother Thayne. Orv enlisted in Navy in Sept 1943 and served in the Pacific front during WWII. Orv and Ruth’s life together started when we he returned from the war. They started their family and lived in Minnesota until they moved to West Des Moines in 1965 and worked in the insurance industry until retiring in 1988. In retirement, he enjoyed playing cards and socializing with his close friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed time surrounding himself with his family. It was a life well lived.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 11am to 1pm, Saturday, May 19, 2018, at McLaren’s Chapel (801 19th street, West Des Moines, IA 50265) with burial to follow. Further services will take place in Minnesota at a later time.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers any donations be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in honor of Orv’s wife Ruth who battled the disease.
