Patricia Lynn (Siskowski) Niegsch passed away peacefully at home with her husband by her side after a long battle with a rare spinal cord condition on September 28, 2020. Better known as “Pat” or “Nana Pat,” Patricia was born July 27, 1947, in Joplin, MO to Herbert and Betty Siskowski. Pat graduated from Joplin Senior High School in 1965, and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Southwest Missouri State University in 1969. On June 21, 1969 she married David Niegsch. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year.
During their marriage Pat and David relocated many times for his employment. Pat always made great friends wherever they lived, from her cherished childhood and school friends, to those she made while working and during her retirement years. Pat had a great love for reading. She enjoyed playing cards, Catchphrase and Mahjong with her friends, as well as dominoes with her grandkids. Pat was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi service sorority for many years. During her working years she was employed at Briggs Health Care (Des Moines, IA), ConAgra Foods (Omaha, NE) and Time-Warner Cable (Austin, TX). Pat and David enjoyed 15 wonderful years of retirement in Sun City (Georgetown, TX). In 2017 they returned to Ankeny, IA to be closer to family. The last two years of Pat’s life were spent at Deerfield, A Lifespace Community in Urbandale, IA.
Pat is survived by her husband David; son, Dr. Jason Niegsch (wife Marcie) Ames, IA; daughter, Julie Alvarez (husband Dean) Alameda, CA; six grandchildren, Charlie, Ben, Joe, Mollie, Della and Malaya; Sister, Ann (Siskowski) Hutchison of Tulsa, OK; niece, Erin Cooper (Tulsa, OK); and nephews, Eric Hutchison (Joplin, MO), Danny Siskowski (Bryant, AR) and David Siskowski (Bryant, AR). Pat was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Mike Siskowski.
Pat fought a courageous battle over the past several years which required her loving husband to be her “hands and legs” in the final stages, however, she never lost her sense of humor and sharp wit.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in “Memory of Pat Niegsch” to Mainstream Living in Ames, IA. This organization provides programs and services for those with disabilities. Pat’s grandson, Ben, has Down syndrome so her wish was to help those like him. Funds received in Pat’s memory will specifically be used to construct a new Supported Community Living Home in Ames.
