Phyllis Kathryn (Boatwright) Conway, 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 13, 2021, surrounded by her family. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 16, 2021 from 5 to 7 p.m. at McLaren’s Funeral Home in West Des Moines, Iowa with a vigil at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Des Moines, Iowa with burial at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.
Phyllis was born June 29, 1936, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Wilber and Clara Boatwright and was the youngest of seven children. She attended Holy Trinity, St. Joseph Academy and graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1957. Phyllis raised seven children while juggling a 46-year nursing career that she loved. She was a devoted mother and cherished time with family and friends. She had an uncanny knack for mastering many hobbies including painting/sketching, sewing, gardening, cooking and decorating. Her favorite pastime was a good conversation over a glass of tea on the patio. Phyllis had deep faith, loved her family, and was very proud of her children and grandchildren.
Phyllis is survived by seven children, Brian (Wendy), Maureen, Kevin (Jeanne), Katie, Norman (Laura), Erin Prendergast (Jeff) and Jerry (Angela); 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years, Norman V. Conway, Jr.; parents; and five siblings.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bishop Drumm Retirement Center, Johnston, Iowa.
