Richard Leroy Bray (Dick) passed away February 1, 2025 at Walnut Ridge in Clive, Iowa. He was born to Donald and Anne Bray in LaSalle, Illinois on December 11, 1938.
Dick graduated from LaSalle-Peru High School and Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois. Dick worked at Reynolds Metals and Essex Wire before founding Dick Bray Electrical Sales, an electrical manufacturer’s rep company in 1968 and ran that successful company until his retirement in 2005. The company has been owned and operated by key employees since his retirement. Dick wants to be remembered as a “Good Guy” who gave everything he had as a husband, father and businessman. He enjoyed traveling, golfing, live music and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Dick’s biggest disappointment was his golf game and the Chicago Cubs. He was a member of Plymouth Church and Des Moines Golf & Country Club.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife of 62 years, Donna, daughter Debra Bray, son Mike (Nancy) Bray, and son Jeff Bray. Dick was very proud of his three grandsons Austin Bray, Alex Bray, and Max Bray.
Visitation and a Celebration of Life service will be held on February 13, 2025 at McLaren’s Funeral Chapel at 801 19th Street in West Des Moines, Iowa. The visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. with a lunch following the service. Entombment will be at Resthaven Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at UnityPoint Hospice and Walnut Ridge. Memorials may be made in memory of Dick to the FreeStore “Helping Families Start Over” (https://thefreestore.org/donate/) in Des Moines or Plymouth Church (https://www.plymouthchurch.com/give).
