Here’s a photo of Ron, Mike and myself winning the 13th Air Force Tops In Blue talent contest.  Ron is in the center, Mike to his right and I’m standing just behind him.  We sang a song called “Ain’t No More Cane On The Brazos.


I met Ron back in 1965 when we were both stationed at Clark Air Base in the Philippines.  We used to hang out at the Airmen’s pool, play guitars and sing folk songs.  He had the most fantastic tenor voice.  Ron, myself and Mike Snyder formed a folk group called Wayfairin’ Trio.   We played at a number of places on and off base.   We later added another guy and two girls and changed our name to Briarwood.  We played a lot of places.  I believe Ron was originally from the St. Louis, MO area.

I remember Ron from our Air Force days.  We went to tech school together at Goodfellow AFB.  We had some good times together.  Very sorry to hear of his passing.  It has been more than six years ago but I just came across his obit.

Ron had a beautiful gift of playing music on his guitar and a sweet voice to accompany it. A cheerful spirit and enthusiasm for whatever he attempted.Saddened by his passing and pray that his family is comforted by our loving God.

Cheryl and family, Ron was a great man, I always enjoyed going to the Christmas family dinners and listening to Ron tell jokes. He was a great talker and easy going. He will be missed greatly by everyone who had the pleasure of being around him.  Prayers for you.

Sorry to hear of Ron's passing. We were friends and classmates through our school years. Had the pleasure of his company at a small class gathering this summer and enjoyed our visit immensely. My sympathies go out to his family. Ron, rest in peace, dear friend.

So sorry to hear about our classmate and friend.  Saw Ron this summer at Applebee's and he was still the funny, funny guy we all knew in high school.  He will be missed.

Many fond memories of growing up together in Colfax as youths and into our high school days. A VERY SPECIAL cousin and fellow Air Force veteran. My condolences to the family. He will be missed but remembered with great cheer.

Ron was my uncle and is in my earliest childhood memories. I haven't seen him since the 80's. I see the Spowert in his face after his grandmother and mother Ann Van Elsen of Colfax. Would have liked to have seen him once more.

I was so saddened to hear of Ron's passing. I am sure he will be missed by family and friends. Ron was my Uncle due to my being adopted into the family and we always had such fun growing up. His rare sense of humor still made me laugh when I was fortunate enough to see him at the Van Elsen reunion in Newton some years ago. I will miss you Ron but always remember you with a big smile. My love and prayers go out to his family.
