Sally Joanne Egly passed away on September 30th, 2021 after an amazing life. Sally was born on March 3, 1933 in Marysville, (Marshall County) Kansas to Donald and Merle Fulton. After losing her parents at an early age, Sally and three of her siblings, Donald, Shirley and Joy, were adopted by Tom and Gertrude Mullin of Creston, IA. Another brother, Gary, was raised by Arnold and Irene Parks of Maloy, IA. Sally attended St. Malachy School, where she was the spelling bee champion for the state of Iowa. She graduated from Creston High School, where she was a cheerleader, a homecoming attendant, a State of Iowa Art merit recipient, a twirler, and a member of the golf, glee and dance clubs. She received her teaching certificate from Creston Junior College.
Sally met the love of her life, Darrel Egly, and married June 27th, 1953 in Creston. They celebrated 58 wonderful years of marriage until Darrel’s passing in 2011. The couple was blessed with seven remarkable children.
The couple started their life together in San Diego, CA, followed next by Ames, IA. Early in their marriage Sally taught second grade in McCallsburg, Iowa to help put her husband through college at Iowa State. After graduation they moved to Jackson, MI where they raised their family. After 20 years in Michigan, Sally and Darrel moved to Des Moines, IA to be closer to Sally’s parents and other family. Retirement took them to Sun Lakes, AZ, later to Denton, TX to be near some of their children and then Arlington, TX. For the last year Sally has lived in the Kansas City area.
Sally‘s interests were many. She loved entertaining and was the perfect hostess for bridge club and dinner parties. Interior Design was a lifelong passion that basically resulted in moving every time she finished a home to her taste, and then moved on to her next project. She followed the stock market and her finances until the very end.
Her competitive nature was evident on the golf course, which was passed on to her children, several of whom became golf professionals. She was a Champion Bridge Player and was known to keep a Euchre game going into the wee hours for a win.
Sally intently followed the athletics of her children and grandchildren, as well as the professional teams of the cities she lived. The sports section of the newspaper was the only section of the paper she read.
Most of all, Sally was a loving, caring wife and mother who is adored by her family and will be greatly missed by all.
Sally is survived by her children Barbara Fink (David), Mark Egly, Laura Mease (Martin), Douglas Egly (Nancy), Steven Egly (Traci), Michael Egly (Debbie), Beth Kester (William), 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
