Sandra (Sandi) Laidlaw, 77, passed away at her home on Saturday, August 3, 2013. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Thursday at McLaren’s Resthaven Chapel.
Sandi came into the world as a fraternal twin born in Hannibal, MO and moved to Des Moines in 1948 attending Roosevelt and graduating from Valley High School. She worked for the West Des Moines School District and a variety of doctor’s groups in the Des Moines area. Sandi served the community as a member of the West Des Moines Emergency Medical Services.
She is survived by her son, Bruce Evans and grandson, Oliver Evans of Durango CO; daughters, Val (Paul) Courtney of Bevington, IA and Bridget Patrick of Indianola; son, Steve and (Vicki) Morris of Waukee; grandchildren, Trisha Grissom of West Des Moines, Justin Courtney of Bevington IA, Chaz Morris of Nashville, TN, and Adam, Crissy and Jason Patrick of Osceola, IA; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Kassidy Grissom, Austin Stoll, and several others from step-daughters and sons; sisters, Sherry Gray of St. Ansger, IA and Linda (Howard) Cowman of Knoxville, IA; and several nieces and nephews. Sandi was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and William (Bud) Moore; sister, Stephanie Abraham and husbands, William G. Evans and Charles Leonard Morris.
She had been attended to for over 14 years by her niece and caretaker, Deb Miller. She will be missed by a group of lifelong girlfriends, Myra Athy, Peg Rhiner and Sharon Annunzio.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at McLaren’s Chapel. The family suggests that memorials be made to the West Des Moines EMS Association c/o Sandra Laidlaw Scholarship Fund.
