

Our devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Sally, passed away on October 27, 2023, at Cedar Ridge Village in West Des Moines, Iowa. Her given name was Sara Maish Liddle, but she was always known as Sally to her family and friends. She was the daughter of David and Sally Liddle.
She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, the Junior League of Des Moines, and the Gyro Club of Des Moines. Following a proud family tradition, she was a 50-year member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter HX.
Following the death of her first husband, John Otto (Jack) Hill in Woodstock, NY she moved back to Des Moines with her five children. She worked for Brenton National Bank and the P.E.O. Executive office. In 1979, she married a former high school friend, Bob Canfield. Together they enjoyed summers at the Outing Club in Clear Lake, Iowa, travel, and winters in Palm Springs, California, and Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jack Hill, father of her children in 1976, her husband Bob Canfield in 2018, and a son, John Michael (Mike) Hill, who taught his mother acceptance, courage and strength during his journey with cancer in 2012. Sally will live forever in the hearts of her children, Cathryn (Jack) Griffis of Oskaloosa, IA, Laura (Tom) Snyder of West Des Moines, IA, Benjamin Hill of Waukee, IA and Sara (Jeff) Crosby of Campbellsville , KY. Her daughter in law, Pamela Hill of Toledo, OH. 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. Others who survive her are her sister, Patricia Baehr of Des Moines, a brother, David (Lorene) Liddle, Jr of Eau Claire, WI.
As per her wishes, Sally has been cremated. Please join the family to celebrate a beautiful life at the Windsor Heights Community Center, 6900 School St, Windsor Heights, IA on Sunday, December 3, 2023 at 10:30 am.
Sally has requested memorials in her name be given to the P.E.O. Foundation, 3700 Grand Ave, Des Moines, IA 50312 to help young women with their college education; Christian Opportunity Center, 1553 Broadway St, Pella, IA 50219 ( a provider of service for persons with disabilities that her granddaughter receives); or to a charity of your choice.
