

Scott William Friestad, 55, of the 4900 block of Gainsborough Drive, Fairfax, Virginia, died at home surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle against cancer. Friends may call starting at 10 a.m. and services will follow at 11 a.m. Monday, April 9 at St. James Lutheran Church in Johnston. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery.
Mr. Friestad was born in Des Moines, grew up in Johnston, and received both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Iowa. After practicing law in Phoenix and New York City, he relocated to Fairfax, Virginia to raise his family. He served at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for 23 years, including 13 years as an Associate Director of the Commission’s Division of Enforcement. He loved travel, scuba diving, attending sporting events and Scouting campouts with his sons, as well as spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Kimberly Sanders; two sons, Thomas of Yardley, PA, and Wilson of Fairfax, VA; three brothers, Louis III and Monte of Johnston, and Todd of Des Moines; and four sisters, Jennifer Friestad of Ellsworth, WI, Jeannie Gee of Johnston, and Jill Friestad-Tate, and Julianne Manock of Polk City.
