Thelma Ruth Brown, 94, passed away on Monday, January 6, 2014 at the Hallmark Care Center in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. Visitation will be from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Johnston followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Burial will take place at Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Thelma was born May 1, 1919 in Des Moines, IA to Velora and Mamie (Durham) Brown. She was a policy analyst for Equitable Life of Iowa and a longtime member of First Baptist Church. Thelma was a professional woman and enjoyed her work. She had an unlaboring faith and dedication to her church. Thelma dedicated her life to the care of her family.
Thelma was a very gentle spirit and always had a smile. In years gone by Thelma and her sisters, Hallie and Vivian were always together and loved entertaining guests in their home. Thelma made many lasting friendships that were a true blessing to her. She especially enjoyed the "Wild Bunch."
Thelma is survived by her niece, Beverly Brown of Lisbon; nephew, Loren (Debra) Brown of Charlotte, NC; eight grand nieces and nephews and thirteen great-grand nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Genevieve, Vivian and Halcyon Brown; brother, Wendell (Vivian/Bee) Brown and a nephew, Jim Brown.
