Virginia "Virgie" Lee Overton

Virginia “Virgie” Lee Overton 76, passed away after a short battle with cancer at Kavanagh House on Friday, July 15, 2016. She lived in Commerce and in West Des Moines Iowa most of her life. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines with burial at Avon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

She worked as a nurse’s aide at Dowell Manor and IMT Insurance before retiring in 1990 to be a homemaker. In her younger years she enjoyed all kinds of crafts including painted wood holiday yard decorations. In her later years she became quite the techie. She started with a TracFone where she learned to text. That way she could keep in contact with her six grandchildren. She used her Kindle, laptop, iPod, or iPad daily but couldn't run the VCR.

Virginia is survived by her children, Steve (Patty) Overton and Debbie (Joe) Burrows of West Des Moines and Rod Overton of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren, Tim, Kyle, and Lindsey Overton, Melissa (Travis) Hoover, Allison and Andrew Burrows; four great-grandchildren and a great-granddaughter on the way; brother, Harold “Ronnie” Robertson of Mitchellville; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Overton; parents Von and Bessie (Squires) Robertson; siblings, Laura Nichols, Thelma Wright, Viola Ashdown, Pearl Hockett, Wanda Overton, LaVerne Lamb, and Vaughn Robertson, Jr.
