Barbara J. Poitrast

Barbara Joan (Pollock) Poitrast, age 84, of Harwichport, MA passed away peacefully at Atria Marina Place in North Quincy, MA on Saturday, November 29, 2014. Beloved wife of the late Honorable Francis G. Poitrast for 57 years; loving mother of Francis G. Jr. and his wife Christine of Freetown, MA, Stephen C. and his wife Lisa of Hopkinton, MA, Robert A. of North Quincy, MA, and James A. and his wife Beth of Bradenton, FL. Devoted grandmother of Gregory, Michael, Nathaniel and Emily.

Barbara was one of three children of the late Mary and Clayton Pollock. She is survived by her brother David and his wife Mary of Centerville, MA, her brother Richard and his wife Ellin of Conway, NH. She is also survived by seven nieces and nephews. She graduated from Boston University where she met her husband, and raised a family in West Roxbury and Wellesley before retiring in Harwichport in 1992. She had many hobbies including reading, cooking, golfing, and knitting; and loved animals, especially her Corgi dogs. She was a member of the knitter’s group at the Council on Aging knitting sweaters, hats, scarves and mittens for persons in need, or to be sold to benefit the Harwich Senior Center. She lived a full life, was loved by all, and will be sorely missed.

Visiting hours in the Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 260 Main Street, West Harwich, MA on Thursday, December 4th from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Cape church, 482 Stony Brook Road, Brewster, MA on Friday, December 5th at 10:30 a.m. Burial following the Mass at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS).
