Eleanor P. Bassett

She was born in July 1937 in Arlington, MA and grew up living in a huge home on Addison Street with her family, especially loving ice skating on Spy Pond. During a summer visit with her family to Cape Cod as a young adult, she met and fell in love with the man who would become her husband of 63 years, Richard Bassett, of Harwich. They raised two daughters together (along with many pets, especially dogs) in a small house on Cranberry Lane. Over the years, Ellie enjoyed volunteering with the Harwich Girl Scouts and in the Brooks Free Library; being a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star; working part time as a pharmacy technician as her girls grew older; and, always, documenting Cape Cod nature scenes through her photography. She was also proud of her work with Harwich’s Cable Channel 18 at the Community Center.

Ellie is survived by her loving husband, Richard; her beloved sister, Elizabeth MacDonald; daughters Donna (David) Kaplan and Gail (Eldredge) Podgurski. She was blessed with five grandchildren; Heidi (Wayne) Fennell, Rick (Kara) Eldredge, Nathan and Lindsey Podgurski, and Alix Kaplan, and three great-grandchildren.
