Harwich – Janet Brett Griffin, 78, died February 4, 2012 unexpectedly at home. Born in Waban MA, she spent her childhood in a variety of areas, although she always considered the Cape her home. Her high school education was completed at the Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr PA. She went on to Smith College, which she spoke of often and fondly, but left early to marry and start her family. Years later, she returned to school to obtain technical training as a computer analyst. Upon completion, she obtained a position running the computer dept. at Macalester College in St. Paul MN. While there, she also became involved with MECC the Minnesota Educational Consortium as a lead analyst. She returned to New England where she worked as a computer professional, initially for the Harvard Cooperative Society and later for Arthur D. Little prior to her retirement. Janet relocated to Harwich in the early 1990’s. There she became actively involved with the Harwich Historical Society. Genealogy, history and spending time with her adopted dogs were among her life passions during the later years of her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Griffin Yonkers of NH, son, Roger “Max” Mudge Griffin of France as well as her grandchildren, Anne Reno Yonkers and Edward “Ned” Hubbard Yonkers both of NH. She also leaves her beloved friend Hazel her Labrador retriever.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Harwich Historical Society 80 Parallel St. Harwich, MA 02645 or the Animal Rescue League 3981 Rt. 6A E. Brewster, MA 02631.
