

Nicholas S. Butera. Husband of Ann (Spaziano). Father of Jacqueline Havey and husband Scott of Melrose, Ma, Mark Butera and his wife Barbara of Westfield, Ma, Richard Butera and his wife Margaret of Longmeadow, Ma., & Dr. James Butera and his wife Mariola of East Greenwich, R.I. as well as eight grandchildren, Jonathon and Stephen Havey, Megan and Matthew Butera, Karissa and Nicholas Butera, Colin and Christian Butera. Born in Reggio di Calebria, Italy on Oct. 30, 1927. He migrated to America and lived in Boston for many years, He was educated in Boston Schools and while at Brighton High School he lettered in three sports and was selected by the Boston Post Daily newspaper to it’s Eastern Mass All-Scholastic football squad. He was graduated from Boston College with a Bachelor of Science Degree, received his Master’s of Education Degree from Boston State College and also matriculated in the Master of History Program at Bridgewater State College. Although he taught briefly in public schools of Massachusetts and Rhode Island, he taught most of his carrer in Private Catholic Schools. Prior to teaching Mr. Butera worked for General Electric Corporation as a Public Relations official. At Cranwell Preparatory School, a Jesuit School in Lenox, Ma for many years, he taught History and Government and served as an assistant coach in football and baseball He also taught at Catholic Memorial High School, a Christian Brothers of Ireland School in Boston where again he taught History, World & United States for many years and where he ascended to the position of department Chairman for several years. In the early 1970’s Mr Butera wa elected to the Foxboro Planning Board during the early years of the transplanting of the Boston Patriots a professional football team from Boston to Foxboro. Mr Butera worked for a period of time as a Real Estate Broker and an Insurance Broker. In the early 1950’s Mr Butera served in the United States army under its 2-3to3 Program and released from the military obligation in 1970. Prior to his retirement he worked for a few years in the United States Postal service and retiring in 1989. After the completion of building the family house in Harwich he joined the family in retirement. He was very proud of his family and sought to enjoy life with his children and grandchildren. He also served as a member of the Knights of Columbus, VFW Chatham and Sons of Italy N. Attleboro. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday July 21 at Holy Trinity Church 264 Main St (Rt 28) West Harwich at 10am. Visiting hours will be held at the Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home 260 Main St. (Rt 28)West Harwich on Wednesday July 20th from 4-7pm.
