Born in Brockton, MA on December 26, 1926, he was the son of the late
William Joseph and Mary (Sheehan) McGowan.
William proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. After being
honorably discharged in 1946, he attended the New England School of
Pharmacy, which is now part of Northeastern University, earning his
B.S. in Pharmacy.
For many years, he owned Hanover Pharmacy in Hanover, MA. He later
established the Prescription Shop in Hanover, MA.
William loved to fly and had a pilot’s license. Bill was a member of
the Respect Life Ministry of Cape Cod, he enjoyed weekly bowling with
his friends. He enjoyed gardening and dining out. He and Rita also
traveled to Germany, Ireland and the Caribbean. William was happiest
when he was with his family. He loved family cookouts and playing
with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Rita Walsh McGowan of Harwich; his
children, Mary-Ann Brinkerhoff of Chatham, NY, Alice Bois of Lovell,
MA, William S. McGowan Jr. of Chicago, IL, Marcia Kibby of Annapolis,
MD, Christine Bartlett of Marshfield, MA; his 10 grandchildren and 1
great grandchild.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 13,
2013 at Our Lady of the Cape Church, 468 Stony Brook Road, West
Brewster, MA 02631.
Burial will take place in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
