For my brother Dilly’s family,

 I want to express my deepest sympathy to each of you on behalf of me and my family. My brother, Dilly, is gone to rest now, and while it is difficult to accept, I am grateful that he did not suffer long and painfully. I left home as a young girl to live with my older sibling, Louise, and her family in Kingston to continue my education, but I have many happy memories of Dilly and I growing up in the country. Memories of the long and twisting roads home as he stopped to swim in the river, pick fruits along the way, and stop to play a game of scrimmage with the other boys in the neighborhood. The memories of the times spent with my brother Dilly are etched in my mind like they were yesterday, so I would like to encourage each of you to remember the happy and important times spent with him too.

 For my nieces and nephews, I would say to you that while your hearts break now and your tears flow, I assure you that one day in the future those will cease, but your love and respect for your father will remain; so cherish his memory as you go through the rest of your lives and endeavor to live like your dad; a peaceful, quiet, and enduring life, while encouraging all who share your journey with you. Think of the many unspoken words that have been left by him and things undone that will never get done, but also think of the happy times. Think of the fun days and of the laughter and counsel you have shared with him. Those thoughts and memories will bring a sense of peace and calm to your sadness and loss.

 One thought gives me the greatest joy, and it is this: my brother, your dad, believed in God as his Savior, and we all have the hope that one day, when Jesus comes to claim His children, if we remain faithful to God, we will meet my brother Dilly again. So until that day, let us all remain faithful so that we too can meet him there. Sleep on and rest, my brother.
