

Clarence (Carl) L. Brumback, M.D. of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida passed away on January 12, 2012. He was born in Denver Colorado. Early education was in the schools of Denver and Hutchinson, Kansas. He received A.B. and M.D. degrees at the University of Kansas. Marriage was to Lucille Gillie who passed away in 2002. Following internship at the Marine Hospital in San Francisco, California, he entered the U.S. Army Medical Corps where he served for 32 years of active and reserve duty. During World War II, he served in the European Theater and was deputy commander of a hospital. From 1948 to 1950, Dr. Brumback served as health director for the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission at Oak Ridge, Tennessee. In 1950, he was invited to develop a public health program for Palm Beach County. He served for 36 years as director of the Palm Beach County Health Department which is recognized in Florida and nationally as a model. He was a faculty member of the University of Miami, University of Florida, and Florida Atlantic University. He received a number of awards including the Sedgwick Medal of the American Public Health Association and the Dr. Nathan Davis award from the American Medical Association. He is survived by two sons, Richard of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Carl of Cockle Bay, New Zealand; two grandsons and one great grandson.
