Born on February 12, 1950, in Delray Beach, FL, to the late Frank and Katherine Grover, and the third child of five children, Lenwood was the epitome of love, laughter, and unwavering kindness. Pop was the greatest Father EVER!
Pop's journey was one woven with threads of love, family, and sportsmanship. His impact on Delray Beach's black history is profound. Graduating from Carver High School in 1969, Pop left an enduring legacy as the state champion thousand-yard rusher, showcasing not only his athletic skills but also his role in shaping the narrative of excellence within his community. As Florida grappled with the complexities of integration in the late 1960s, Carver High emerged as a beacon of progress, being among the first black high schools permitted to compete against white schools under the FHSAA (Florida High School Athletic Association). Pop's pivotal role on the all-black Delray Beach Carver High football team, clinching consecutive state titles in 1968 and 1969, symbolized resilience and triumph in the face of adversity. He obtained collegiate offers from esteemed institutions like Bethune Cookman College and Fayetteville State University shows his impact and influence . As a star running back and wide receiver, Pop's performances in the state championship games, amidst hostile crowds, exemplified his courage and tenacity. His contributions extended beyond playing; coaching for the semi-pro football team Delray Wildcats, he continued to inspire and uplift aspiring athletes, leaving a lasting mark on generations to come. Pop's legacy as a trailblazer in black history in Delray Beach continues to resonate, his expertise on the field was matched only by his dedication to mentoring young athletes, instilling in them the values of hard work and perseverance. His life serving as a testament to the resilience, excellence, and unwavering spirit of his community.
Lenwood Grover's professional journey at Bekins stands as a testament to his unwavering dedication and exceptional leadership. Over the course of an illustrious 48-year career, Pop's remarkable skills earned him the esteemed title of the "Best Packer." His influence transcended the confines of the workplace, as he assumed the role of a mentor and guide, shaping the careers of numerous young men within the moving and storage industry. Known at Bekins for his unparalleled expertise, Pop's commitment to excellence was further underscored by the numerous accolades he received, including recognition as Contractor of the Month. His enduring impact was not confined to his tenure at Bekins; driven by his entrepreneurial spirit, Pop eventually ventured to establish his own successful packing and moving company, leaving a lasting mark on the industry he served with distinction.
In 2006, Pop embarked on a new chapter of his life, uniting in marriage with his beloved Marva Pinnock-Grover. Together, they formed a bond rooted in love, faith, and unwavering devotion. Pop's legacy of love extended beyond his immediate family, embracing all who crossed his path with warmth and compassion.
At the heart of Lenwood Grover's life was his unwavering devotion to Jesus Christ. In his final days, his soul sought solace in the soothing melodies of gospel music, his spirit uplifted by the fervent praise and worship of his faith. From the moment he accepted the Lord and was baptized in July 2006 at Village Baptist Church, now known as Family Church, Pop's life became a testament to the transformative power of faith. His commitment to serving others and spreading the message of love and compassion was unwavering, as he dedicated himself wholeheartedly to his church family. Despite facing physical challenges such as knee surgery, Pop's service on the Hospitality team remained a testament to his enduring faith and boundless love for his community. With Christ as the center of his life, Pop's every action and word reflected the profound impact of his unwavering devotion to his Savior and Lord.
On June 11, 2024, Pop transitioned from his earthly home to his eternal abode in Heaven, leaving behind a legacy of love and a treasure trove of cherished memories. Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find solace in knowing that Pop's spirit lives on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Preceded him in death; his father and mother: Frank and Katherine Grover; sister Dorothy Grover; brother; Randolph Grover; sister-in- law, Eunice Dawkins (Ocala, FL).
Pop's memory will be forever cherished by his devoted wife, Marva Pinnock-Grover; sisters, Jackie Grover, and Kathe Grover Lester (Willie); son, Lenwood B. Grover Jr. (Deborah); daughter, Cheryl Grover; two granddaughters; and his blended family: son, Sheldon Pinnock (Garnet); daughters, Shelly-Ann Eaton (Gordon) and Shenelle Pinnock; five grandsons; and one granddaughter. He is also survived by a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and many friends whose lives he touched with his boundless love.
As we bid farewell to Pop, let us take comfort in the knowledge that his legacy of love and laughter will endure for generations to come. Though he may be physically absent, his spirit remains with us always, a guiding light in our darkest hours and a source of strength in times of need.
A Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 18, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Family Church Village, 3600 Village Blvd, West Palm Beach, FL 33407. A Celebration of Life will follow 12:00 PM at the same location. A Committal Service will occur at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens, 5601 Greenwood Avenue, West Palm Beach, FL 33407.
